Luke Marantz Trio

  • The Jazz Gallery www.jazzgallery.org (map)

Luke Marantz - piano
Thomas Morgan - bass
JK Kim - drums

Luke Marantz is an internationally acclaimed pianist and composer based in Brooklyn, New York. Described by NPR as “among the best young American jazz pianists”, Downbeat Magazine as “a pianist who paints at the keyboard with musicality” and Paris Move as “among the most quietly compelling voices shaping the future contours of contemporary jazz”.

Equally adept at a piano or synthesizer, his music organically combines jazz and improvisation with elements of electronic music, contemporary classical and post rock. He has performed at seminal halls, venues and festivals across the Americas, Europe and Asia and has appeared on over 15 recordings as a sideman.

His debut recording, “Embers”, a collection of original works for solo piano was released on Afterworld Records and his most recent recording, “Echoes”, a collection of duets with guitarist Simon Jermyn was released on Chilltone Records both to critical acclaim.

In anticipation of his third recording as a leader he will be bringing his trio to perform at the Jazz Gallery for an album preview of "Shrines", a brand new suite composed specifically for bassist Thomas Morgan and drummer JK Kim to be recorded the day following this performance.
