THE LOCKDOWN SESSIONS - Every Monday at 6pm.  Each musician presents a short set of music recorded from their homes, and joins us for the culminating concert & hang.

This week’s Lockdown Sessions features musicians from label, Biophilia Records. Biophilia Records is an American record label founded in 2011 by musician Fabian Almazan in Harlem, New York. Biophilia means "love of life or living systems." This music label is a home to meaningful, imaginative artists who care about the environment.

NICOLA CAMINITI Praised as “clearly a name to watch” by All About Jazz and first prize winner of the North American Saxophone Alliance Jazz Competition 2018, Nicola Caminiti is an multi-award winning Italian saxophonist, composer, educator and bandleader based in New York City. Born and raised in Sicily, Italy, Nicola is considered one of the leading musical figures among his generation for his intensely creative modern concepts based on interplay and rhythmic mastery, still embracing a sense of musical tradition.

RUSSELL HALL is an award winning double bassist from Kingston, Jamaica. He was introduced to jazz at the Dillard Center for the Arts directed by Christopher Dorsey. He continued his studies with master bassists Ron Carter and Ben Wolfe at The Juilliard School in New York City. He has been blessed to work with legends such as Edward Norton, Kathleen Battle, Wynton and Branford Marsalis, Barry Harris, Wayne Shorter, Roy Haynes, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Mwenso and The Shakes, Emmet Cohen and Jonathan Batiste and Stay Human. His band, “Bessie and The Rainbowkids” is a group comprised of artists from all around the world who’s mission is to bring peace to all ears and love to all hearts. in addition, Russell is a part of “The Blacksmiths”, an arts coalition dedicated to social justice.

DAVID GILMORE has recorded and performed with many of today’s most influential modern artists. He has worked with Wayne Shorter (appearing on Mr. Shorter’s Grammy Award winning album, High Life (Verve)), Dave Douglas, Muhal Richard Abrams, Sam Rivers, Steve Coleman, Cassandra Wilson, Don Byron, Uri Caine, Randy Brecker, David Sanborn, Ron Blake, Carolyn Leonhart and Christian McBride, among many others.

DAYNA STEPHENS is globally recognized as a saxophonist, composer and arranger, and is the first place recipient of the 2019 DownBeat Critics Poll in the category Rising Star—Tenor Saxophone. Playing with pureness of intention, Dayna admits he’s always searching to find what’s “singable.” That search often results in live improvisations and written compositions that challenge traditional concepts of harmony, pushing phrasing and sending beautiful and unintentional melodies in unlikely directions. Dayna’s soulful lines have resonated through the halls of such internationally renowned venues as the Village Vanguard, Blue Note Jazz Club, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, Birdland, Yoshi’s, The Blue Whale, Marians Jazzroom in Switzerland, Blue Note Milano, Philharmonie de Paris, Le Duc des Lombards, Red Rocks and San Francisco Jazz Center.
